Is there really friendship between a man and a woman?

The topic of male and female friendship is considered controversial. All coaches and family psychologists unanimously assert that it does not exist and cannot exist. They claim that in such friendships, a man is always just waiting for the right moment. And that no man would be friends with someone he does not find sexually attractive. It’s just how their natural instincts work.

But I disagree with that opinion. Although, in my life, there have indeed been male friends who wanted to take me to bed. But there were others as well.

Once, together with a friend, I moved to a big city and rented an apartment in a nice new building. We worked and studied part-time, spending our free time relaxing in bars and visiting friends. In short – we enjoyed our youth.

On our floor, in two neighboring apartments lived some guys. A little older than us. We met them on the very first day. And I ended up being friends with these guys for many years.

Each of them had a younger sister. And it seems to me that they viewed me in the same way – as a sister. With whom it was interesting to communicate and get into unforgettable stories. But one that they needed to protect and take care of.

They would pick the lock for me when I accidentally slammed the front door after leaving the keys inside. They fixed my sockets, faucets, and pipes. They would come over for beer – and always bring something for the table. We went through the crises of romantic relationships together – both mine and each of theirs.

I will never forget celebrating March 8 with these guys on the staircase. We could have gone to someone’s home, but we just wanted to do it this way. We sat on the steps with vodka and some meager snacks. And then suddenly decided to go to one of the neighbors to watch a film.

Of course, we fell asleep at the very beginning of the film. But the guys laid me on the bed, covered me with a blanket. And they themselves slept on the floor. No one made any advances towards me – there weren’t even any hints of that.

Later, we moved to different neighborhoods of the city. But I continued to maintain friendly relationships with these guys for a long time. They helped me move, once again fixed minor repairs, and even found homes for my kittens.

So, to the question, does friendship exist between a man and a woman, I will answer affirmatively. Yes, warm friendships without a sexual undertone can exist between us. But it probably all depends on the upbringing of the man himself.
