Both newcomers received a 3-nanometer processor, larger batteries, and an expanded set of health monitoring features; however, alongside the upgrade, prices have also increased.
Two sizes of Galaxy Watch 9 and the large Watch Ultra 2
The Galaxy Watch 9 replaces last year’s Galaxy Watch 8 series. The standard model will be released in two sizes: the 44mm version features a 1.47-inch display, while the more compact 40mm option has a 1.34-inch display.
In both cases, Samsung uses Super AMOLED panels with a maximum brightness of up to 3000 nits. The battery capacity depends on the case size: the 44mm watch is equipped with a 445 mAh battery, while the 40mm model has a 390 mAh battery. Both versions support fast charging.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is available only in a large 47mm case. The watch boasts a color 1.52-inch Super AMOLED display with an always-on mode and a peak brightness of up to 5000 nits. The battery, with a capacity of 800 mAh, is also compatible with fast charging.
Snapdragon Wear Elite and Wear OS 7
The hardware foundation of both models is the Snapdragon Wear Elite chipset, complemented by 2GB of RAM. The Galaxy Watch 9 features a built-in storage of 32GB, while the Watch Ultra 2 comes with 64GB of memory.
The new watches run on Wear OS 7 with the proprietary One UI 9 Watch interface. For connectivity, a smartphone or another device running Android 13.0 or higher, equipped with at least 1.5GB of RAM, is required.
Sleep, heart, and fitness monitoring
In the 2026 models, Samsung has used an updated BioActive Sensor with artificial intelligence capabilities. It collects data about the body’s state and is utilized by various health monitoring tools.
The Vitals feature tracks vital signs during sleep. In addition to this, the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 offer:
- heart condition monitoring;
- Nutrition Alert notifications related to diet;
- daily assessment of cardiovascular system load;
- Fitness Index;
- hearing health support feature.
Samsung is also preparing a separate application for divers, developed in collaboration with underwater equipment manufacturer Mares.
Water and extreme condition protection
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is certified to the IP69K standard, providing enhanced protection against water, dust, and high-pressure spray. The watches are rated for water resistance up to 10 ATM.
The standard Galaxy Watch 9 has an IP68 certification, resisting water pressure up to 5 ATM. While they are less protected than the Ultra version, they are suitable for everyday use and activities in water.
Prices and availability
The price of the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 in the USA will be 699 dollars. Prices for the Galaxy Watch 9 start at 379 dollars for the Bluetooth model. The LTE version will cost at least 429 dollars.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will be available in Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray. The Galaxy Watch 9 will come in Graphite, Silver, and Cream options.
