Codex Micro addresses this issue by bringing key controls out of the ChatGPT desktop application onto a separate device with mechanical keys, a joystick, and a rotary knob.
The device features Agent Keys, which help monitor the status of Codex agents. Their RGB lighting changes color depending on the current state of the agent, so a quick glance is enough to see whether it is working, waiting for a command, processing a request, or has already completed a task. Switching between agents is also made very simple — it requires just pressing the corresponding key.
Additionally, the device is equipped with customizable Command Keys, which can be assigned to frequently used commands. For example, accepting or rejecting changes in code, starting a new chat, activating Push-to-Talk mode, or sending messages.
The built-in joystick allows quick launching of popular development scenarios, including checking pull requests, searching and fixing bugs, as well as code refactoring. The rotary knob is used to adjust the level of Codex "reasoning" depending on the complexity of the task being performed.
All controls can be customized through the ChatGPT desktop application. Codex Micro is compatible with Windows and macOS, and supports Bluetooth and USB-C connections. Inside the device, there are 13 mechanical switches, a touch panel, a joystick, a rotary encoder, and an additional set of custom Codex keycaps.
