Wars with Noisy Neighbors: How to Achieve Silence in an Apartment

It is good when neighbors turn out to be wonderful and cultured people. Then you can befriend them, visit each other, and solve common problems together. But what to do if you end up with rowdy and scandalous neighbors?
A couple of years ago, I moved into a new building. Everything seemed wonderful – a new house, excellent renovations, a good neighborhood. But my joy was short-lived.
Right below me lived a young woman with a small child. I have nothing against children; I have kids myself. The problem turned out to be different – this young mother was concerned with entirely different topics than raising her little daughter.
In the first few months, she started having parties. Guys kept replacing one another, occasionally smoking at the entrance to the building and getting into fights among themselves. And when the neighbor bought herself a sound system, the hell broke loose. The music, dancing, and shouting did not quiet down either day or night.
The sound insulation in the new buildings turned out to be simply awful. In the breaks between the roaring music, I heard all conversations in raised voices, children crying, and the noise of falling furniture.
At first, I tried to solve this problem exclusively peacefully. I went downstairs, knocked on doors. When they opened, I talked to the owner, asking her to lower the volume. There was a positive result only after the first request. Then my pleas were simply ignored.
Fortunately, other neighbors turned out to be normal people, for whom such madness was just as unacceptable as it was for me. In fact, we got acquainted because of the wild mother. And we united in the battle for the right to silence.
Together with other neighbors, I went to court. The whole process before filing a lawsuit stretched for several months. You wouldn't believe how many times I wanted to throw in the towel! But we finally achieved justice.
The trial itself lasted no more than half an hour. The judge listened to us, asked the defendant a few questions. Yes, she also showed up at the hearing, and even brought her child. Apparently, she hoped to evoke sympathy this way.
It didn’t work for her. In the end, she was fined twice – for violating the conditions of living in an apartment building and for lying in court. She claimed that none of us had ever approached her or asked her to turn down the music. But she forgot that there were chats in messengers that completely disproved her words.
After the trial, peace and quiet were restored. It seems that financial penalties are indeed the most effective method. Since then, I have been warmly and closely communicating with the other neighbors.
